Warning- This is a very long blog.
The Game of "Got'cha" works like this; Each person is given a clothespin with someone else's name written on it. Your objective is to find your person and clip the clothespin on them so that you can take the one they have then move on to the next person and so on and so on.
That said, let me introduce you to our dorm;
Caleb
Jacob
Zach
Justin- My roommate
Sam Kim- There are two Sam Kims at Tyndale which makes that a total of three Sam Kims I know
All of us got clipped on the first day, that is, all of us with the exception on Sam. Sam had generally been a quiet person before this day, however, we soon figured him out to be one of the greatest criminal masterminds of his generation. Sam really wanted to win this game, so I suggested the rest of us be his bodyguards for the remainder of the trip. So began a day and a half of escorting him to each event, keeping bystanders a good ten feet away from him at all times and making quick getaways from compromising situations.
The game soon got out of hand, with gangs forming left right and centre to try and compete with our small posse. We had made a name for ourselves by the end of day one by successfully taking down over several people but our first obstacle was yet to come.
There are more guys in our dorm which I did not mention previously who also play a part in this story. The next chapter involves a guy we affectionately call "Big Daddy Capone," because on the first day he jokingly said we could call him big daddy but it stuck- he also looks like Al Capone.
Through the grapevine we had heard that next on Capone's list was Sam. We took extra caution entering crowds and wooded areas because Big Daddy's men were everywhere. At lunch the game is put on hold until you exit the mess hall, so we would often request meetings with Capone to try and work some kind of a deal out- nothing would fly.
The morning of day two we woke up, met at Sam's cabin and began escorting him to breakfast but halfway there we were jumped by one of Capone's goons- Jeremy, probably the biggest guy in frosh who broke through our lines of defence and grabbed Sam in a bear hug. Through all the confusion we tried to pull him off, but to no avail. A crowd had gathered around us and made it even more dangerous because we couldn't see Capone anywhere. All of a sudden, he materialized out of the fray, reached into his pocket and just as he was about to clip the boss, Justin grabbed his arm and wrestled him to the ground. Taking our chance, we broke free and escorted him successfully to the mess hall.
Our next target was a guy named Caleb (Another Caleb). I'll spare you the details for sake of lengthiness but we distracted him by playing ping pong while Sam snuck up behind and clipped him. After Caleb was Tyler. Tyler led us to what would be the biggest kill of the game.
I've told you about all the guys in our dorm minus about six. There was a whole group of Newfoundlanders who came to school together this year so naturally they formed a "Newfie Gang." Now they had always been a threat because they were one of the only real rivals as far as we could tell. The leader of the Newfie's was Tyson- a shorter guy, but still strong and intimidating to look at. We knew we had to get them before they got us, so we made our move instantly.
They could see us coming across the field to the cabin Justin and I shared with them. They were sitting on the porch outside so I suggested the rest of the guys go to their rooms while Sam, Justin and I headed to ours as to avoid any suspicion. They didn't know we had Tyson so while Justin and I went past them into our room, Sam sat down beside him and joined their conversation about betrayal. What happened next could have been in a mobster movie, as Justin and I came out, we watched as sam clipped Tyson without him knowing and whispered, "You know, betrayal's an ugly thing- Got'cha." The Newfies were all taken aback and just speechless. After about five minutes of them kicking themselves, Tyson handed over his collection of twenty eight pins. Adding to our collection it brought us to fiffty seven.
Again I will spare you the details, but we clipped about three more (One of which was Capone) and that brought us to seventy one clothespins.
Fast-forwarding to this morning, we had made such a name for ourselves that the student leaders and RA's (I don't know what that stands for but they were big kids) began plotting against us to take Sam out permanently. After almost being surrounded twice, we decided to make a break for the mess hall where it was safe. The Newfies were in the mess hall and remembering they had pledged allegiance to us we decided to add them to our contingent. We could see the RAs surrounding the building and could do nothing to stop them coming in. We tackled two of them to the ground and held them there until the head RA suggested we move it outside. We were ten minutes from the end of the game when we were finally surrounded outside, in a last stand, we fought them off eventually crumbling to the ground.
They had clipped him, but with someone else's pin so we effectively won the game and the grand prize- a $25 giftcard to Wal-Mart which we will use to buy a lava lamp.
wow. good 'ol gotcha. good story matt, glad to hear the first couple of days have been eventful.
